Reed Alexander Macedon/Heathcote 2023 'White Heart' Riesling
Here's a providential tip.
Keep your eyes on Sierra Reed.
She's an innovative, purist, no-bullshit master winemaker.
All her wines (made from fruit sourced in Australia and NZ) are single vineyard, hand picked and single variety.
Her achievements are exceptional.
As are her wines!
This Riesling from a dry land, limestone rich vineyard between Macedon and Heatcote VIC is absolutely stunning.
We don't say that lightly.
It is stunning.
Riesling is a noble grape. It can age seemingly forever or be drunk young.
This one does both.
The aroma is intoxicatingly fruity (a signature Riesling character) and shows the full cornucopia: peach, apple, pear, kumquat, apricot. The more the merrier.
Finish goes on like a Bach cantata. Blissfully long.
Complex barely describes it.
We had this first with oysters then sang choy bow from rare breed organic pork.
We could have equally loved it with a chicken and watercress salad.
Or roast pork with perfect crackling, apple purée and celeriac mash.
Or fried prawns with lemon aīoli and chips.
Or whole fried snapper with Thai green mango salad.
We cannot recommend this wine highly enough.
