St Ignatius Vineyard 2022 Contemplation Torrontes
If you know Argentina's winescape, you'll know Torrontes.
There's precious little of it grown in Australia, which is a pity.
In 1992 the Diaz family from Argentina established their St Ignatius Vineyard in Victoria's Pyrenees region near Gariwerd.
Among the varieties they planted, Torrontes was one of them.
Lucky us.
In Argentina it can be thin and acidic or lush and full bodied.
Diaz' version is simply splendid.
Echoing the best Chenin Blancs from France's Loire Valley, this is a complex little beauty.
Abundantly fruity, it has also a lingering lip smacking finish.
We reckon this will age pretty well if you manage to keep some aside instead of guzzling it all.
With its complexity and intense mouth feel, this Torrontes goes nicely with a simple prawn cocktail.
It will also lift the edge on a tasty spicy prawn risotto.
Try it with barbecued pork or chicken skewers and satay sauce.
A fried tofu salad with Vietnamese herbs, cashews and a nuoc mam dressing?
Go for it!
Or keep it simple with fresh goat's cheese, a warm slice of sourdough and a ripe pear.
You may never cry for Argentina again.
