Giammarino 2019 Nebbiolo

Italian inspired to its roots, Giammarino in the Yarra Valley creates vino that is also true to its Australian location, this lovely Nebbiolo being a primo example of the combination of the two.

Nebbiolo of the Piedmont (Barolo and Barbaresco) is often tannic enough to make you think you're licking a desert rock but not this.

Dark cherry look and fragrance. A whiff of green tobacco. A hint of truffle on the palate.

Complex?

You bet!

Also incredibly good value for a wine with breadth and depth like this one.

Nebbiolo is a fickle grape variety, not easily grown as it favours a mix of cool misty and long not too hot sunny days.

Giammarino's Nebbiolo resembles the best of Italy's versions.

Pair it with a porcini mushroom pasta or risotto.

Or pan fried lamb fillet with an aromatic caponata.

Or go crazy, find a hare and make a red wine ragout with pancetta; rabbit will do too.

This is a kind of 'special occasion' wine we like to drink every day.
