Usher Tinkler Hunter Valley 2022 Pinot Shiraz Red
Representative of the "new gun" generation innovating with Aussie wine styles, the guys of Usher Tinkler personify all that's good about change.
The Hunter is one of Australia's oldest wine regions (first wine grapes were planted in what is now suburban western Sydney) and continues to supply us with unique plonk.
Hunter Shiraz is rightly famous. Often described as having "sweaty saddle" characters, they're also densely fruity and heavy with tannins, in short, age-worthy.
Add Pinot Noir to them and spice emerges along with lightness and gentility.
This Usher Tinkler blend strikes all the commensurate notes. It's savoury and fruity sweet, full bodied and light enough to guzzle. There's plum, black cherry, leather and earth.
For us, it's unmistakeably Hunter... in the nicest way possible.
Chill it a bit and try it with a salmon red curry.
Make your best meatloaf and go for your life.
Bake pork and fennel snags with potatoes and fennel. Dijon mustard on the side.
Layer fried sliced aubergine, zucchini, onion, garlic, tomato passata and creamy scamorza in a take on lasagne.
If "quaffable" is a word, this wine nails it.
