Valli 2018 Riesling
North Otago on New Zealand's South Island is a harsh climate. Freezing cold winters, hot dry summers.
Perfect Riesling conditions.
Valli established the Waitaki Valley's first vineyards in 1993 on limestone infused terroir, very similar to France's Burgundy and Germany's Mõsel.
This 2018 Riesling is a fragrant dream. Tight but refined acidity gives way to a touch of sweetness yet it's still a dry wine. Complexity gives it added dimensions: apple fruit, slate dryness and luscious mouthfeel.
Valli's Rieslings have lengthy ageing potential. It's worth holding on for a few years to see how they develop.

Lobster Newburg is the go.
Or go spicy and make a coconut infused Thai red curry with chicken.
Mushroom omelette would bring out this wine's latent earthiness in the most delicious way.
Oysters with a Viet nuoc cham dressing would marry well, so too sweet scallop sashimi.
