Bleasdale 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

Langhorne Creek near the Murray river mouth in SA is one of Australia's unsung hero regions.

Some of our most famous wines come from grapes grown there. Hello Penfolds and Wolf-Blass!

Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in its maritime influenced temperate Mediterranean climate.

Bleasdale has been here since the beginning, going back so far as 1850 when the land was planted to vineyards.

It's a winery that does reds just about better than anyone else around.

Ignore the tacky superfluous medals plastered above the label and focus on the superlative wine within.

Classic Cabernet Sauvignon like this should demand all your attention.

This is a rich, full bodied wine. No donut hole fault inherent with many Cabernet dominant wines.

There's intense enticing spicy plum and berry characters wafting up like a genie from a bottle. The mouthfeel is complex without overwhelming tannins. The end notes are pleasantly lingering.

All in all, it's a very impressive package.

Cabernet Sauvignon traditionally pairs best with lamb, which is exactly what this beauty demands. Barbecued chops? Roasted leg? Braised shoulder? Stewed shanks? Go for it!

A barbecued beefsteak would do just as well.

A dense mushroom based lasagne would too, same with a moussaka.

Or an Italian style chicken cacciatore.

Or a French style poulet chasseur.

You get the picture.
